MILLÓ is an elegant exploration of geometry and materials, with a strong focus on collaboration with local artists to bring a unique design to life – more than just a restaurant, it’s an architectural and artistic expression.

Recently opened on the ground floor of the eponymous office building in central Bucharest, MILLÓ is a refined manifestation of contemporary design set within a historic urban context with Art Deco inspirations. The building itself, a remarkable example of architectural intervention in a protected zone, is a space that balances sophisticated ambiance with thoughtful functionality.
The interior design of MILLÓ tells a story of materiality, light, and meticulous detailing. Its theatrical atmosphere emerges from a rich interplay of textures and an acute attention to each element. A defining feature is the sculptural ceiling, which redefines the spatial experience. Above the main dining table, the ceiling takes the form of a “volcano of light,” drawing the gaze and focusing the energy at a central point. This architectural gesture creates an intimate atmosphere, ideal for social gatherings and reflecting the restaurant’s philosophy of celebrating human connection around the table.
In contrast, the cocktail table area is marked by a sharply sloped ceiling, suggesting a more open space designed for conversation and tastings. The play of light and shadow is essential to MILLÓ’s atmosphere. LED strips at the base of the ceiling slopes accentuate textures and geometry, while the “volcano” can shift colors to reflect different times of day. The lighting system plays a key role in creating an adaptable and pleasant ambiance.
The materials and textures used throughout the space extend the architectural language of the Millo building. The flooring reinterprets the geometric rhythm of the façade's columns through a combination of microcement and cast-in-place terrazzo. The central table, also made of terrazzo, acts as a spatial focal point, while the cocktail table, pigmented in a warm reddish tone, creates a harmonious contrast with the high-gloss wooden walls. These reflective surfaces echo silhouettes and light, adding a dynamic dimension to the space.
The bar, with its vibrant geometric composition, combines stainless steel and Cherry-Levanto marble, becoming a visual highlight. The DJ booth is discreetly integrated, concealed beneath a removable wooden cover.
The chosen materials reflect a combination of natural elegance and reverence for local craftsmanship. Varied textures – from the Cherry-Levanto marble in the bathrooms to the terrazzo tables – create a rich atmosphere full of contrast and variation. The custom-made tables were cast in situ and shaped to follow the design’s rounded and organic contours. Atop the cocktail table sits a lamp-object created by artist Andrei Arion. The lighting fixtures above the sideboards, visible from the shopfront windows, are by Polish artist Piotr Drabowa.
In this way, MILLÓ is more than just a restaurant; it is an example of design where art, functionality, and aesthetics coexist in harmony. In every detail, MILLÓ reaffirms the idea that good design can transform the everyday into art.
