EGOLOGIA

Post Excerpt Content- 100 words limit

In a world flooded by the culture of self-promotion and the constant pursuit of validation, the concept of self has taken on new dimensions. Humanity as a whole has been profoundly transformed through its contact with recent technology, while the relentless accumulation of novelty imposes a transience that pulls us toward a single direction. Our relationship with the environment is filtered through this superficial culture of the event.

EGOLOGY, the exhibition before us, is an endeavor that explores the complex relationship between the individual ego and the social constructs that shape it. It is a journey of self-discovery, where the inner landscape mirrors the intricate relationship we share with the outer, natural world.

The works curated for this project are both statements—articulated affirmations about the commodification of identity—and mirrors reflecting the impact of our choices on the ecosystems we inhabit, on our own internal landscapes. Together, they provide a perspective on the intersection between self and society. Through different media and techniques, the artists confront the viewer with questions about the authenticity of the self and the impact of external validation on self-esteem.

We are faced with the inherent tension of modern life, where social pressures and societal norms often clash with the longing for connection and harmony with the natural world.

EGOLOGY is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation to introspection and transformation. It encourages us to transcend the limits of our individual selves and to recognize our interconnectedness with all living beings, while examining the social and environmental consequences of our actions.

The question “Can we begin to imagine a future in which inner peace and ecological harmony coexist?” can easily stand alongside those raised by Baptiste Morizot and Estelle Zhong Mengual in their book The Aesthetics of Encounter. The Enigma of Contemporary Art: Whom do we value in our daily lives? To which living beings do we give our attention, our gratitude? And whom do we forget? Who is invisible to us, even as they act within our lives? Which living beings do we owe something today, yet have forgotten to thank?

“Art can be a powerful tool to change our perception of the world and inspire us to act in its protection. We must overcome our egocentrism and see ourselves as part of a larger whole.”Olafur Eliasson
“The current ecological crisis is a crisis of the human–nature relationship, a crisis of how we conceive our place in the world.”Giorgio Agamben
“We are interconnected with everything around us. Destroying the environment means destroying ourselves.”Björk
“The ego is just a small drop in the vast ocean. While man sees himself as a separate presence, he is part of a greater whole, and his actions can affect the entire ecosystem.”John Muir
“The ego is a split within nature; it is the spirit’s attempt to rise above the world and dominate it.”Hermann Hesse
“The human ego is like a dark cloud that casts a shadow over the light of our consciousness. We must disperse it to rediscover our connection with nature and with others.”Greta Thunberg
“There is no ecological crisis separate from a social crisis, an economic crisis, or a moral crisis.”Pope Francis
